One effective technique I learned from Jim Wisecaver, my SED 554 supervisor is to "model the quiet you want". The idea is that when the students are doing seat work and the teacher is roaming the classroom, if we as the teacher wispers the students will immitate us. By the same token if we as the teacher speak in a loud voice the students will also speak loudly.

Purpose
This blog is so we can exchange ideas on one of the issues universal to all subjects; that is how to effectively manage the behavior of our students.
I encourage people to post both questions you have, and tips you've learned in the field, or theories you've heard.
